Meter Management
What is Meter Management?
Meter Management is a new feature designed to help you maintain a clean, accurate, and cost-effective view of your energy data.
The goal is to automatically identify and manage Dormant Meters—those that are no longer active or expected to publish new interval data on the utility website. By identifying and deactivating these meters, we reduce clutter in your dashboard and ensure you are only focusing on live, active meters.
Benefits of Meter Management
Before this feature, meters that were no longer live on-site would often remain active in the system. Such meters would show error statuses in your dashboard (since no new data was being collected), causing noise and making you believe there were data collection issues with your live meters.
| Benefit | Description |
|---|---|
| Improved Experience | Removes the "noise" of error statuses from dormant meters, allowing your team to focus their debugging efforts only on live meters where data collection issues are fixable |
| Operational Efficiency | Saves your engineering and operations teams the time and resources they would otherwise spend manually tracking and deactivating retired meters. |
| Data Integrity | Provides a clear, data-backed signal (isIntervalsDormant) to determine if a meter is expected to publish new interval data. |
Key Features
This feature introduces a new data field and an optional auto-management service to solve these problems.
- Introducing the isIntervalsDormant Field: A new field, isIntervalsDormant, has been added to the meter level. This field is a boolean indicator that tells you immediately if new interval data is expected for a specific meter.
- Meter Management (Auto-Deactivation Service): For customers who opt-in to this service, the system will automatically manage your meters for you:
- Auto-Deactivation: Meters will be automatically deactivated when the system determines their isIntervalsDormant field is set to True.
- Auto-Reactivation: If a deactivated dormant meter later has a new statement or new interval data is collected, the system will auto-reactivate it.
